About

This site publishes sourced data on U.S. student loan consolidation and refinancing. Each article answers a question borrowers keep asking in forums without getting a sourced answer: who actually gets approved for a refinance, what a consolidation does to a PSLF count, what applying does to a credit score, and which way out of default holds up.

Who writes it

Articles are researched and written by Ben-G, who compiles the figures from lender filings, Federal Student Aid publications, the Federal Register, Federal Reserve and CFPB research, and court records. You can reach Ben-G through LinkedIn.

How the articles are built

  • Every number links to the document it came from, and the article lists all sources at the end.
  • Each article has a methodology section that says how the figures were gathered and which steps could not be completed.
  • Figures restated by an aggregator rather than published by the original source are marked as secondary; disputed figures are marked as contested; calculations we did ourselves are labelled as ours.
  • Articles show the date of their last update and are revised when the underlying rules or reports change.
